Richland, WA Training
Every year, EnergX trains more than 15,000 site and DOE workers and managers at the Richland, WA site. We implement the requirements set forth in DOE Order 5480.20A to ensure qualification programs are developed and implemented in an effective and reliable manner consistent with the hazard involved and the risk associated with the task and/or project.
We have implemented all phases of the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) process; the steps include:
- Analysis of training needs and design of the program – EnergX provides analysis of training in accordance with the requirements of HNF-PRO-170, Analyzing Training. The type of analysis performed is dependent on the level of complexity and hazards involved in the job to be analyzed.
- Training material development / review / approval – We develop hundreds of training courses in compliance with the guidance governed by HNF-PRO-171, Designing Training, and HNF-PRO-172, Developing Training. Design packages include setting specifications and objectives that have been submitted to client training and management personnel for approval before course material development begins.
- Classroom instruction – EnergX recognizes that all classroom instruction must be conducted in accordance with HNF-PRO-173, Implementing Training, and that classroom instruction is a highly visible activity. The response of trainees (our customers) to both course materials and instructor styles have a significant influence on the credibility of a training program.
- Computer based training (eTraining) – EnergX develops and delivers eTraining for material that can be effectively taught using this tool. Refresher training and supplemental training are traditionally candidates for eTraining or computer based training.
- On-the-Job Training – EnergX has conducted on-the-job training (OJT) for more than 200,000 personnel over 9 years at Richland, 5 years at TWPC, and 5 years at RFETS. All OJT training modules are conducted in accordance with HNF-PRO-173, Implementing Training.
- Training revisions and updates – EnergX updates and revises courses on an ongoing basis to ensure the material keeps up with current trends, procedures, and regulatory guidance.
- Training Program Evaluation and Feedback Response – Examinations are managed in accordance with DOE-STD-1011-92, DOE Guideline to Good Practice for the Design, Development, and Implementation of Examinations. As part of the process, all EnergX trainers are evaluated on an ongoing basis. Our experienced training management staff plays an active role in training evaluation. Instructors facilitate Level I evaluations and use the resulting feedback to improve their courses. The management team engages in routine observations of training conducted to support real-time training improvements. EnergX’s experienced management staff routinely reviews changes to training drivers (e.g., federal and state regulations, DOE Orders) to determine training implications.
