Strategic Management Integration

EnergX personnel have worked with a variety of clients to develop and implement business strategies. Companies and organizations frequently find themselves in need of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of their operations. One possible avenue for improvement often lies in streamlining the internal processes that they are employing to conduct their business operations. Whereas an effort to improve business processes can be mounted using internal resources exclusively, it is often the case that using a team approach where external consultants work hand-in-hand with a select set of the company's employees can yield better results. This results from the combination of the broader experience base and objective perspective brought by the external consultants and the knowledge of the company's strengths and weaknesses and culture brought by the internal employees.

Results using this approach can be dramatic. One of our clients was having difficulty meeting its commitment to the Department of Energy and time was short. By restructuring the business strategy, integrating the management team, and breaking down the project into manageable components, EnergX was able to help the client accomplish a significant milestone.

Analysis & Improvement of Business Processes

EnergX personnel have participated in a number of business process improvement efforts for a variety of clients, primarily at electric power utilities and at Department of Energy facilities. The EnergX approach to Business Process Improvement is to work with teams of the client's employees to integrate the client company's experience with EnergX's objective perspective and experience. EnergX tailors its approach to a particular client's specific needs, generally including the following steps:

  • With the client's senior management, develop a mutual understanding of the process improvement objectives and priority.
  • Create teams that include representatives from the major stakeholders in the various processes.
  • Facilitate and guide each team's efforts to develop a clear understanding of the nature of the processes currently being used to complete the work activities.
  • Play a similar leadership role in the team's efforts to identify opportunities to improve the subject processes, including providing insight into how industry best practices could be integrated into the processes.
  • Similarly lead the team's efforts to test the revised processes and develop an implementation strategy that maximizes the likelihood of success.

Development and Implementation of Business Strategies

EnergX personnel have worked with a variety of clients to develop and implement business strategies. These strategies have incorporated a number of strategic elements including:

  • Improving operating efficiency to reduce product costs;
  • Employing new production techniques to enhance product quality or reduce cost;
  • Improving performance to increase regulatory margin; and
  • Repositioning the client's business within its industry segment.

In successfully completing these consulting efforts, EnergX personnel have drawn on the collective experience of EnergX employees gained in a variety of firms and industries. In each case, EnergX tailored its approach to meet the specific client's needs and to take full advantage of the client's resources available to the project. EnergX's role in these projects generally included:

  • Facilitating groups of client's senior management to define a clear vision and objectives for the project.
  • Leading and facilitating efforts to formulate the elements of and to devise an implementation plan for the new business strategy.

By skillfully switching roles from leading to facilitating the client's efforts in these projects, EnergX consultants have ensured that the end product reflected both the experience and knowledge of the client's key personnel and the EnergX participants.
