Engineering
EnergX provides design engineering services for the TWPC project to design all modifications to existing facilities and new facilities and provides engineering management for the oversight and integration of all engineering activities.
As part of our Value Engineering Program, a major change to sludge processing was developed and endorsed by DOE which will result in a total life cycle cost savings of $200+ million. Some of our design-build successes include:
- A large custom glovebox line
- A large box breakdown area (BBA) – a HEPA filtered, climate controlled, supplied-air enclosure for the opening, inspection, sorting and segregating, and repackaging of wastes
- Revision to the design for canister lid closure to a removable lid, eliminating remote welding and improving production rate by reducing lid closure time
- Expanding several access-controlled, radiological-monitored, climate-controlled waste storage areas
- A new drum lifting method resulting in a 60% increase in packaging efficiency.
EnergX was responsible for design completion of the processing facilities and systems including a 1,200 drum capacity CH-TRU Marshalling building that serves as the staging area for legacy CH-TRU drums/packages for receipt and handling prior to processing. EnergX also designed and built containment and housing for waste sorting and segregation activities within the processing building. Sorting and segregation operations for incoming waste packages sometimes require visual inspection and sorting/segregation of materials and repackaging of those materials. The enclosure is a HEPA filtered, hardened facility with double air-locks to ensure the safety of our workers and the containment of contamination. The Box Breakdown Area (BBA) is also a hardened, HEPA filtered, double air-lock facility designed to accommodate large containers that can be opened, visually inspected and sorting/segregation operations. Both areas were designed so that repackaged materials can be sealed in containment and via elevator to maintain contamination control.
